Granite Countertop Prices – How Much Should You Pay?
Granite is a beautiful stone that comes in many colors suitable for use in the home. But granite countertop
prices are not low and vary little. The countertops are back in vogue, after a short hiatus, and used today in many
new homes and those homes needing kitchen and bathroom remodeling. With its varying colors the stone can either
revitalize the home’s present décor or develop a new color scheme for a newly constructed kitchen or
bathroom.
The ancient Egyptians saw the beauty of granite many thousands of years ago and used it in their homes as well
in their burial sites, namely, the pyramids. The red stone was used in pyramids of important people. The red had a
tendency to look pink especially when paired with another color. In their homes the ancient Egyptians used it for
floor tiles.
Granite countertop prices vary in accordance with what you want done and who does it. One slab runs from $60 to
$120 per square foot. That is the price of the granite alone. Add to that the price of delivery to the job site and
its installation and the cost comes to much more. You may save a couple of dollars if you have a full service
provider sell you the stone, deliver it to the job site and install it. Still, the whole job will not be
inexpensive. You also have to look out for hidden waste costs which you the homeowner are responsible for. The
length of the countertop and how many cuts have to be made can account for about three square feet of waste. Ask
about the possibility of a lot of waste before the job is started. If the countertop prices are not a problem then
the granite countertop is for you.
