Kitchen Countertop Prices – Granite v Quartz

Granite and Quartz are two of the most popular materials when it comes to kitchen countertops.  Both are hardwearing and attractive, though both can seem costly! When it comes to kitchen countertop prices these materials are not the same as the other options such as wood or plastic.  The latter two can be attractive and cheap, but when it comes to kitchen countertop prices it is worth spending today and saving tomorrow. Unlike many other materials Granite and Quartz are resistant to heat, they can be cleaned easily and will not be marked by knives and other kitchen equipment.

Granite countertops are more porous than quartz and will need periodical applications of a sealant to ensure they remain resistant to moisture. Quartz, like Granite is a hard material, but is not porous.
Quartz is less likely to have color variations and personal preference will be a strong factor in deciding on the type of material. Quartz can be ‘cold’ looking, while the natural variations of pattern and color in Granite will appeal too many.

The massive variations in the cost of Granite, depending on source, quality, and thickness make it difficult to compare kitchen countertop prices. It is worth doing a reasonable amount of research on the subject but generally prices will range from $50 to $120 dollars per square foot. There are discount materials available but it is worth checking on why these materials are discounted. Similarly when it comes to Quartz kitchen countertop prices there is a considerable variation.  Again prices range from $50 to $120 per square foot.
As the prices can vary for both and there is no massive difference in the price range it is worth considering the following factors when comparing prices.

Both materials have a lustrous appearance. Quartz does not need to be sealed, whereas Granite does. In both cases it is strongly recommended that you use professional installation, so it is worth researching the comparative costs. While Quartz is a hard material, it can scorch. Granite may crack and will absorb stains if it has not been sealed properly. There will be joins between surfaces in both materials, though a reliable and experienced installer should be able to hide the seams well.  Quartz is partially man made, and pigment can be added to give a specific colour, this may be an important factor in your overall design. Granite is a completely natural material; the stone will have pattern and color and will be unique.

When comparing kitchen countertop prices made from Granite or Quartz remember to shop around, check with installers as to their pricing for installation. Don’t forget to ask them to include all costs and materials. Finally try to view as many different options for the materials you are considering and don’t make a decision until you are sure! Choosing either Quartz or Granite for your project will be a once in a lifetime decision. If you have not had this kind of countertop before, you will certainly not want to return to anything else.
